Default Flights and Weather worries

Advice needed...

I have a Northwest flight out of EWR to MOB via MEM on Saturday morning
10am.
Problem is that it looks like a whole bucket-load of snow is approaching
friday midnight and will snow all of Saturday (4-6").

I need to somehow get out of EWR and make it to MEM before what looks like,
will be a cancellation or real delays of all the flights on Sat.

NW is telling me that until EWR gets on some "list" of weather-affected
cities, I can only try and stand-by on a 6am flight Sat morning.
If EWR gets on this "list" then they will actually rebook me on an earlier
or whatever flight they have open.

I'm afraid that will be too late, so I want to fly out on Friday (tomorrow)
night. What is the best way to do this, or to handle this situation.

And I really have to be in MOB by Saturday night.

Thanks in advance,
-Avian

There is only about 3" of snow predicted. You should be able to make it
to your destination by Saturday night. Just make sure you get to the
airport as early as possible.

Crossing my fingers for you!

There are three different predictions for this storm, from a spec to an
inch, three inches, and seven to ten. Until it gets here, it's probably
anybodies guess, and until they get a handle on what the weather will be
they probably won't be rerouting people.

By tomorrow they should have a much better idea if it will be an issue or
not, I'd try again to see if they will let you go early or not.

I'm flying into NYC myself on Friday with NWA. I haven't seen any weather
waiver's posted on NWA's website as of yet, but I suspect it might happen
later today once the wx situation is more definate (perhaps once the NWS
posts a winter storm warning, opposed to a watch, if such a warning is
issued).

Personally, I hope the snow holds off so that I make it into NYC on Friday
evening. I don't return until Monday and by then the weather should be
cleared up as the snow is supposed to stop early Sunday from the latest
forecast.

I need to somehow get out of EWR and make it to MEM before what looks

If a weather waiver is issued, see if you can get a MEM flight (or to any of
the other hubs, DTW or MSP) on Friday. If there are heavy loads out of EWR
on Friday to where a standby isn't possible, look at JFK as an alternative
if they will allow you to standby out of an alternative "same city" airport.
I'm not sure what NW's schedule is out of JFK, but I know the loads are
generally lighter than EWR or LGA.

NW is telling me that until EWR gets on some "list" of weather-affected
cities, I can only try and stand-by on a 6am flight Sat morning.
If EWR gets on this "list" then they will actually rebook me on an earlier
or whatever flight they have open.

If Saturday arrives and no weather waivers are in place, check-in early (I
suggest an online check-in), show-up at EWR and try to standby for the 6am
flight. Depending on legal routings, they might let you standby for
alternative routings, including DTW and MSP, even if it means an extra
connection to MEM.

Also inquire about codeshares out of EWR when requesting a standby if you
can't get on an actual NWA flight. Most CO flights have a NW codeshare #
and it's possible they can put you on one of those.

I've always had good service from the NWA staff at EWR and hopefully they'll
be able to assist you.

Best,

Steve
