"Paul Johnson" wrote in message We are booked on Oceania Insignia for its trans-Atlantic crossing starting November 13. The information we have received hasn't told us anything about temperatures we can expect and such. Should we carry coats, sweaters, shorts, all or the above or none? We travel from Washington Dulles to Paris to Lisbon. The ship stops in Funchal (Madeira Islands) and St. Lucia before ending at Bridgetown, Barbados where we will fly to Miami to Atlanta to All of the above, it should be bitingly cold on the Atlantic, but I LOVE the time on ship during a trans-Atlantic, it will warm up after a couple of days but the first two or three will be very cold. Thanks again, Paul Johnson Check out http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv...historical.htm for expected/average weather in various places (as well as extremes). Paris is likely to be chilly and often rainy this time of year. Euros: Get them in Europe.. you will get a better rate of exchange -- using ATMs is usually the best deal. Paul |

Do European ATMs accept most American ATMs? For example, my ATM card is MAC and shows the Cirrus logo as well. Thanks, Paul Johnson |

I also got the best exchange rate there. One caution: make sure your bank understands what your overseas requirements will be -- in some cases you will have to add a fifth digit to your existing 4-digit PIN. On one occasion I had to wait overnight to use the hotel's ATM because my bank back home neglected to transfer funds between accounts as instructed. Someone there decided to put the transaction in their overnight postings, instead of doing the immediate transfer I requested. (It wil be a very looong time before they make that mistake again ........ g ) |

Thanks, Paul Johnson You won't have any problem with the ATMs. Cirrus is one of the two major "groups." There will be ATMs in the airport, of course, so you can get some money upon landing. Paul |
