Sorry, I don't completely understand your plans to rent a car...

We plan to visit Madrid then San Sebastian, Pamplona and Bilbao.
Since there are no rooms available in Pamplona during San Fermines, we

will
simply stay in San Sebastian and commute to Pamplona in the early morning
hours for one day of San Fermin festivities, then drive back to San
Sebastian that evening and use the car for sightseeing around the coast

and
traveling between San Sebastian and Bilbao the next few days.

You could do that from Vitoria, which is worth seeing and is closer to
Pamplona.

If I were you, I d really avoid driving in Pamplona on the San Fermin.

RENFE also operates extra regional services for that event.

Best regards

Phil

We need to be in Pamplona by 6am so we can get a spot to veiw the running of
the bulls, so I doubt there will be any trains from San Sebastian that will
arrive that early.
