Default Newfoundland in October?

We're thinking of vacationing in Newfoundland in October. How cold is
the weather? My wife doesn't mind a little nippiness (say, 50F/10C),
but not freezing cold. Are we better off going in spring or fall? We
don't care about tourist attractions as long as the scenery is pretty,
the fish are fresh and the people are nice.

If Newfoundland is too cold in October, how are Nova Scotia, New
Brunswick or Alberta?

We were in Newfoundland and Labrador through most of July, and the typical
temps were around 16-21C (61-70F). But it's been a cool summer all
throughout the northlands, including Nova Scotia. October might get a bit
chilly in Nfld, but you won't match the scenery anywhere else. And the
people are fantastic. Open, friendly, with a unique and welcoming culture.
The weather would be warmest in the St. John's area, but the spectacular
scenery is in the Western region, especially Gros Morne Park. If you see
nothing else, see that.

If interested, we can provide more detailed info re where to stay, eat, etc.
We covered the entire island as well as southeastern Labrador by car.

You will always find the people of Newfoundland friendly, but I would not
count on the weather being in the range that your wife will find
comfortable at that time of year. Alberta is also likely to be getting
cold at that time. You might find Nova Scotia and New Brunswick more to
you liking. If you are there in early October the hard wood trees should
still be very colourful but most of the leaves will be gone by the end of
the month and it will start looking a little drab.

Maybe this site will help. It allows you to see
what the temps were for the last 4 years on any
specific date:

Why does everyone thank that relating their personal experience about
weather in a place X years ago constitutes advice?

Here - take a look at the historical averages for St. John's. Don't go
expecting 20 Celsius because someone else did once. I would rate this chart
as indicating it you can expect it to be damn chilly, but then again, I
shouldn't say that because I don't know what you consider chilly, do I?
