Default new york

hello everyone:

i plan to go to new york if not this november it'll be the followin
month.

you know any sites which would be superb for this?

ive never been to new york. i plan to enter the big apple via jfk
intl airport.

my plan is to just walk around new york so a site showing cheap to
affordable accomodation would be very useful, a BIG plus would be a
site wherein it would have a suggested 'walk trail'

thanks a lot and more power to this forum!

The cheapest place to stay is a hostel -- try the official New
York HI hostel. You will find there help in orienting yourself to
the city -- last time I visited there was a volunteer in the lobby
to answer questions. Close to public transport.

Your best bet is to buy a guidebook on NYC and read up. Get the lay
of the land and see which of our many interesting neighborhoods you would
like to walk around in. NYC is a bit too big to just wing it and start
walking There are many books as well that suggest walking tours, but
most good guidebooks have them.

In addition to walking you will want to buy a Metro card that gives you
unlimited access to bus and subway, so you can travel from one area to
the other cheaply.

Here are a couple of sites to look at, and your helpful Google will
turn up more if you enter New York City walking tours.

The most pleasant walkable neighborhoods are the East and West Villages,
Soho, Chinatown, the Financial District -- don't miss them, and don't
miss Central Park if the weather permits. Areas of Midtown are walkable
if you cut them down to size. The Uppper East and Westsides are large
areas and you can't do them all, but a walking tour guide should help
whittle them down.

Another great walk is across the Brooklyn Bridge.

Here are some sites that may be of help:
http://www.nycvisit.com/home/ Official tourist site
http://www.bigapplegreeter.org/ You can sign up to have a New Yorker
take you on a walk around a neighborhood, and it's free!
http://www.askanewyorker.com/ Ecclectic information and bulletin
boards for various neighborhoods.

Walking around is the best way to experience NYC! There are many
free walking tours, but you have to find them; try the Friday NY Times
or Timeout NY. Enjoy your trip!

Cheers,
Ann
