Default Flat Tyres

How many people know how old their tires are or can interpret the DOT code

many people check their tire pressures?

Tires can indeed fail in time. Three yeas ago I bought my mother's car from
her when she had to give up driving. It was 7 years old at the time. Within
a few months I had vibration in the front and was planning to take it into
the tire shop. A few days later it was shaking quite badly so I tool it in
immediately. The belts had f ailed on two front tires. The car had only
44,000 odd km on it. The tread was barely worn, but the tires were shot.
SInce the tow fronts had failed from age I had to replace all four.

Did her car sit for months without being driven? I've heard that tires
can sometimes develop flat spots in that situation.
