Default Montreal this summer

Hello: I'm not comfortable traveling far from home these days due to
the terrorism threat (it's just the way I feel--no flames please), so
I thought Canada might be an obvious choice for a vacation this
summer--there is also the added plus of no jet lag--no long, boring
flights, etc.
Anyone have any ideas of a good hotel (three-four stars) where my
husband and I should stay (in Montreal)for a week?

For those of you planning to go to Mtl this summer...you might want to check
out the 25th Annual Festival International De Jazz....I think it's the first
two weeks of July....GREAT GREAT time!!!

I really like the Marriott Chateau Champlain. It's in a great
location and has it's own underground parking and Metro station,
(Bonaventure), which is only two stops from the Old Town (Champ de
Mars).

The higher floors have some spectacular views, but are more expensive.

I have found special deals on this hotel on Expedia or Travelocity
(sorry, I don't remember which one, check both).

I would also highly recommend a day trip (or overnight) in Quebec
City, a beautiful city. You can drive there in three hours or take
the train.

On further reflection, three stops

Stephanie,

We just got back from Montreal and Quebec.

I second the motion to include Quebec in any trip to that area. Quebec is
beautiful, and is quite different from Montreal.

In Montreal, we stayed downtown. Search for montreal in google groups for
recent discussion of downtown vs vieux montreal(link below)

We stayed at the Ritz Carlton on Rue Sherbrooke, which is reasonably
priced($200CDN) given the exchange rate. Very nice place, good service,
nice old-world decor.

Please see my earlier message
. com in that thread.

The menu looks fantastic! I'll have to tuck this one away.

Hey, a fellow Ottawan, no doubt licking your wounds after the terrible
hockey game last night. We need big changes in the Sens. I'm tired
of losing.
