Default Lake Manyara, Tanzania

If you have visited the parks of northern Tanzania, what is your impression
of Lake Manyara? If one is spending four days in the Serengeti and two
nights at Ngorongoro, would a visit to Manyara still be valuable? Or
dispensible?

HH,
I spend 3 nights and did multiple game drives into the park
last January, then went on to Ndutu/Serengeti and
Ngorongoro. I did think it was worth it and plan to go back
on my next trip. Lake Manyara is nice for elephants,
many birds, vervet and other monkeys, giraffe, and we saw
our only leopard of the trip there. The lodge at the
top of the rift wall is wonderful too.

I saw on the net something about the lake levels are very
high, flooding roads. But I could not verify if that
is current or old onfo, so you might check.
Can anyone reading this verify the conditions?

Photos from my January trip are at:

Lake Manyara is one of the few places if not the only one
where you can see lions in the trees ! and the lake is full of birds. The
scenery is quite different from Serengeti or Ngorongoro. And Lake Manyara
hotel overlooks the lake. Nice settings and people friendly.

Excusing me but surly the lakes is full of fish and the birds is in the
tree.

As the poster said, Lake Manyara is one of the few places where you CAN
actually see lions in trees, lions, unlike leopards, don`t usually climb
trees, these lions are unusual. As for birds in the lake, flamingos,
herons, pelicans and some other birds are IN the lake!
