Default land & sea temperatures in April for Greek islands

Anyuone any experience/ideas of land & sea temperatures for islands
such as Naxos and Paros in earlyish April?

Friends are living in Athens and we're planning to hop on a ferry to
an isalnd with our young children after visiting them, for a small
beach holiday.
The problem this year (2004) is the Olympics are slap bang in the
middle of the UK school holidays, and the only other lengthy period
that could accomdate a ten day holiday is in the first couple of weeks
in April... but it would be pointless going if temperatures would be
too cold... we visited Ibiza in early maty a couple of years ago and
while land temperatures were excellent the sea temperature was a tad
chilly for the children to exjoy bathing overly... I just wonder if
its ewarmer further east in the med?

Unless late October is of any use? (!)

cheers for any help

I don't know what the air temperatures will be like, but the water will be VERY
cold. I was on Naxos in early June and even then it was too cold to swim in
comfortably unless you were in very shallow water or you were already hot from
lying in the sun. I have heard from many people that, for water temperatures,
it's best to wait until September and even early October. Still, if you have
the change to go in April it is well worth your time because there is a lot
more to do on Naxos than just swim. IIRC it's the biggest island in the
Cyclades. We rented a car and spent one entire day driving around the island
and it was a great trip. There are a lot of interesting things to see around
the island. For more info about Naxos and practically everything else Greek I
highly recommend the following web site:

I've been on Crete at Easter and it was really that cold. (holding his
pinkie bent at an angle)
We also did some sailing in May round Kefaloniki, the water was just
swimmable.
For water temperatures, October may be a better bet. My impression is
that the eastern Med water temperatures stay high long into the end of
season, then in winter they get the full blast of cold air down from the
steppes of Russia.
