Try a Google search for "hotel teheran" for instance.

I suspect that there are not too many people travelling to Iran. If you
get no reply here try the Lonely Planet forums.

And I wonder, are Americans allowed to travel to Iran?

yes Americans are allowed. I think they need a special screening.. but they
can go

all transactions cannot be in dollars.. though the prices are mainly in
dollars

Hi tile,

can anyone suggest a booking site for hotels in Iran and in Uzbekistan ??

I cannot help much since I went there without booking anything in
advance. My hotel in Esfahan was very cheap but also very bad, even for
backpacker standards. You should also avoid Hotel Naderi in Teheran,
which was listed in my travel guide. A run down place with huge dead
insects in the room Even the warm atmosphere in the lounge and the
famous Naderi cafe could not make me want to stay longer there.

But I enjoyed Hotel Anwar in Shiraz. I think it must be this one:
http://tinyurl.com/yq3fvz (Hotel Anwari). Simple, a bit noisy, but
frienly people and a good price at 140'000/100'000 the room with or
without bath (Apr 2004). If you are used to upper class hotels, you
might want to look at other places, like the 5 star Homa.

Despite what the Western propaganda wants to make us believe, the
Iranians are very open and friendly, just ask around and they will help.
I was taken to the hotel Anwar by a Iranian man who sat next to me in
the night bus from Esfahan. It was 5am, he paid for the taxi, showed me
where the hotel was and then left. And he was definitely no tout, just
wanted to help.

If you stay at the Anwar, ask for a day trip to Persepolis with Morteza.
