Thanks. You check out the new panoramas I made? They're a little crude (hard to match exposure times in 360 degrees), but really nifty. Yes I did! That was pretty cool stuff as well!! I don't have a camcorder. I have a Sony DSC-P9 'Cybershot'. Wow! That's neat! I didn't realize dig still cams had the capacity to take such long clips of video like that now days. Are you saying that only memory stick devices can do this? Such as Sony? Ive been wanting some way to take dig video myself. I don't currently own ANY dig cams... still or video Maybe the Sony unit like you have would be a good unit for someone who mainly wants dig stills... but might occasionally want video as well? Again..... that memory "stick".... how LONG could you take a video? How many minutes? |

Are you saying that only memory stick devices can do this? Such as Sony? That's right. Memory Stick was actually made by Sony, but no other camera vendors have taken it up. So I cannot use anything but Memory Stick in my camera. Which sounds bad, but really, once you get a few Sticks that cover one day's photos, that's all you need. Then you get a portable hard drive to download the day's photos to the hard drive. (a laptop also words). I have a Mindstor drive. The batteries have worn out, but when they are removed the drive just operated on AC from the wall outlet. Ive been wanting some way to take dig video myself. I don't currently own ANY dig cams... still or video Yeah, well, I try to be consciencious (sp?) about taking video. I hate the inconsiderate tourist who wildly sweeps a pan over you without asking. But it is a nice thing to do when a still photo doesn't put you 'there'. Maybe the Sony unit like you have would be a good unit for someone who mainly wants dig stills... but might occasionally want video as well? Exactly my thought. And really, it is MUCH easier to be a 'good photographer' than a 'good filmmaker'. Again..... that memory "stick".... how LONG could you take a video? How many minutes? A little over 5 minutes straight. There is a low-qual 320x240 mode that is like 11 minutes and a 160x120 mode that's quite a long time. But when your video purpose is to take10-30 second clips, 5 minutes is an eternity. The only problem I had with it was in filming buskers - street musicians. You wanna film them a lot longer. (see my buskers video through the Grand Tour link in my sig). -- Dan Stephenson Photos and movies from last year's 3-month European vacation and this year's road trip through Wales: http://homepage.mac.com/stepheda (remove nospam from email address if replying) |

Yeah I agree on the above I did at one time have an old analog camcorder ( now stolen)...... but it was my first time owning a camcorder and it turned out that I shot video in short "clips"..... rather than 10 mins of "continuous" video. Do you think cameras like you have might take traditional tape based dig cam corders over since most people don't take that LONG of a clip anyway? |

But until the memory capacity of still cameras jumps a lot to take 1 to 2 hours of video, there will be a place for camcorders. I guess if 1/4 resolution gives 5 minutes, then full resolution gives 1.25 minutes. This is in a 128 MB Memory Stick. So that means a 6.144 GB Memory Stick to take an hour of full resolution video. That may take a few years to get developed. -- Dan Stephenson Photos and movies from last year's 3-month European vacation and this year's road trip through Wales: http://homepage.mac.com/stepheda (remove nospam from email address if replying) |
