I spend most of my life travelling and in hotels. Smoke filled rooms, lobbies, or just the stench left over from the last guy who smoked in your room is a problem. Marriott (and I am Marriott Platinum) promised to solve the problem. They should honor their promises. Why not just dump them and go to Hilton? |

A couple of decades ago Hilton was world class. No more. They're a second tier chain. The last time I stayed in a Hilton was in Cairns in 2000. Not that much better than a Motel 6, frankly. Odors from mildew in the hallways, etc. Marriott is ahead of the pack by eliminating smoking. Some properties are resisting. Marriott should do more to enforce their own rules. |

Craig Welch writes: Excellent! I might attend this event. Smokers are a minority, something that Marriott has apparently overlooked in this case. Short-term thinking instead of long-term wisdom. Perhaps it is merely a local management mistake. I suspect you're right. I've had the odd problem from time to time with individual properties not following the rules. Usually a call to Marriott offices solves it. |

Grow up. I don't know where you stay, but my remarks are based on US hotels. Maybe you need to travel more. I always get a non-smoking room but you can often smell the residue from the last guy who was there. If you smell residue, it's not a non-smoking room. Hotels charge $200.00 and up for smoking in a non-smoking room. The new Holiday Inn Expresses make you sign a form at check-in stating if you smoke in a room, $200.00 will be added to your bill for clean-up. Plus when they have smoking in the lobbies or smoking conventions you have to wade through the smoke to get to your room. There's no smoking in 90% of hotel lobbies. In most hotels, the smoking rooms are on the upper floors, You'll seldom find a smoking room on a lower floor any more. |

Why don't you just boycott Marriott? A boycott by a single customer isn't likely to have much effect. |

Some properties are resisting. Marriott should do more to enforce their own rules. Hilton eliminated it before Marriott and Hilton isn't hosting a cigar convention. |
