Per the link below they must of got off at CTL. Not sure why
flightstats shows this plane at landing at CTL.

Well, it seems flightstats.com isn't very reliable.

It's a rare successful water landing as depicted in those aircraft safety
cards. How many of the passengers paid attention to the flight attendants
just minutes prior?

What is interesting is that there was not much warning. Pilot allegedly
came on the PA systen and told people to brace themselves for hard
impact and that was it.

Based on a graph I saw on TV, the plane climbed sharply initially, then
leveled over northern manhattan (likely normal noise abatement
procedure) and started to descend just before veering south over the
river. "Event" would have happened about 3 minutes after takeoff. At
that point in time, everyone, including FAs would still be strapped in.

So far, there have been no reports of FA activities prior to the
ditching. The NTSB report will undoubtedly document cabin activities pre
and post ditching.

This becomes interesting when you consider that many/most passenger were
wearing the life jackets. Were they donned prior or after the ditching ?

I was disapointed that the life jackets did not appear like how they
were depicted in the airline documentary Airplane !!! with them having a
donald duck shape.

Will also be interesting to see ifthe "ditch" switch was operated by the
pilot and if it was fully operational with just RAT power.

It makes me wonder. With so many airports just seconds away, the pilot
chooses water. Can't wait to hear why.

Reports say that the plane lost power in both engines. In a situation like
that, you can't be picky about where to land. You head for the largest area
visible.
