I was on the Sovereign of the Seas during Feb '04 and she missed two of her
four scheduled ports. I understand that conditions (weather, medical
emergencies, etc.) may require changes and I don't have a problem with
these. What irked me was that the cruise fare distinguishes 'port charges'
as a separate item (~$100s) and RCCL would not credit those fees for the
missed ports. (Lori sent me to RCCL and RCCL said they do not refund port
charges).

I have been on 15+ cruises over the years and, in the beginning, the price
of the vacation was essentially 'cruise part' and 'airfare part'. Now the
cruise industry advertises a price and adds 'extras' (taxes, fees, port
charges, energy fees, etc.) after the fact. If they want to play these
'price point' games they should refund what they do not deliver!

Jim:

I have had port charges refunded to me a number of times ... and the
interesting part is that they always amounted to a pittance ... yet the
port charges would suggest much larger fees ... obviously the cruise
line lines their pocket on this one.

At this point, a visit to a lawyer would be in order, if you want to
press the case. You could probably make it a class action and, as the
lead, make more than a few bucks. Not as much as the lawyers.

Can't name them, they don't exist. And no, it's not the NSA.

Did they exist when they existed?

On Princess 10 day cruise we skipped four ports & when we asked for
refund of port charges (they are paid in advance when you book cruise)
the purser said they never make refunds on port charges?
So we never have & never will use that crappy cruise line again!
That was four years and six cruises ago.

Bill
