Default Cheap place to stay in Hong Kong?

I'd happily reccomend the Noble Hostel in Causeway Bay, close to
Central. Not as cheap as Chungking/Mirador Mansions, but much more
salubrious!

How much do they charge, and is it dorms or individual rooms?
As long as it's safe, clean and cheap I won't mind sleeping in a dorm.

200-300 HKG according to noblehouse.com. This is for single/double
rooms, and it's a nice place (I was there with my fiancee and baby last
November)

I've heard about Chungking mansions -that's the "fire trap" place, isn't
it? Is it cheap there?

My experience was about 100 HKG, but that is 3 years ago. Mirador was
around 130 HKG

Clean? Safe (except for the fire hazards)?

I fear the cockroaches are far too numerous to name and develop a
meaningful relationship with :-( Never had any other problems though,
but perhaps my ugly and scowling face puts the muggers off....

This will be too expensive for me in the long run.

If you are to be a long term resident, ask the bloke who runs it for a
deal. All things are up for negotiation, this is HK you know!

Not too bad. Is that a single room then? If yes, will dormitories be a
lot cheaper?

No, that's dormitories!

As long as the cockroaches don't get into my bed I'm (more or less) OK
with that, though it doesn't seem to be too pleasant. But I guess that's
what comes with "budget accomodations"!

Yup. I did my time in both Chungking and Mirador, and I'd prefer not to
go back....
