Best and Worst American Cities according to Europeans
striker wrote: "Google Beta User" wrote in message oups.com... wrote: Do Americans agree? The thing is, you have to be *prepared* to enjoy the American culture for what it is to enjoy American cities. It's good that you say that, because American culture is very much appreciated and enjoyed around the world if you *really* think about it. Sure, go ask in France. For some reason they like Jerry Lewis. |

[OT] Best and Worst American Cities according to Europeans

What a strange set of cross posts Newsgroups: alt.travel,houston.general,rec.sport.football.coll ege,rec.sport.soccer,rec.travel.usa-canada And you did this to a different set of cross posted groups..... And why the Southern Catholic countries Italy and France? 5 Best (the least American cities): Miami San Diego NYC San Francisco Boston Oh, these aren't bad. 5 Worst (typical American cities): Houston Dallas Pittsburgh Detroit Cleveland Hmmm. Most Overrated (these cities are not necessarily bad, just plain overrated by Americans who have no standards): New Orleans Austin Los Angeles Chicago Las Vegas Yeah, I would tend to say these are overrated. Do Americans agree? What a strange set of cross posts Newsgroups: alt.travel,houston.general,rec.sport.football.coll ege,rec.sport.soccer,rec.travel.usa-canada We don't get the houston.* hierarchy here. According to a recent poll these are the impressions of Europeans about American cities. Those are strange adjectives. Each of those countries has similar immigration problems as other European countries. Most Overrated (these cities are not necessarily bad, just plain overrated by Americans who have no standards): New Orleans Austin Los Angeles Chicago Las Vegas Do Americans agree? I agree. I would add Philadelphia to "worst"-- just for the horrible I will find out in 2 months. food and sickening air quality alone. Las Vegas is a complete waste of time. I would not say that. And it's not that I care for LV. It's not longer a matter of gambling. It is the major growth area in the USA. Even outside the CES, you can see more open technology right now in LV that the Santa Clara Valley. Chicago IS over-rated, but then I'm from NYC area so it seemed never Agreed. that great to begin with. You expect L.A. to be bad, so I don;t see that as "over-rated". LA was a nicer place years ago. There are still nice places, but it has changed a lot. -- |

Like I'm gonna take seriously Europe's opinions on American cities? 5 Best (the least American cities): Miami San Diego NYC San Francisco Boston I sure would like to know how they came to the conclusion that NYC is among the LEAST American cities. 5 Worst (typical American cities): Houston Dallas Pittsburgh Detroit Cleveland Having lived most of my life in the first and last of these five, I have to say that Cleveland definitely belongs on the list of worst cities, but Houston has been a terrific place to live and raise my sons. Most Overrated (these cities are not necessarily bad, just plain overrated by Americans who have no standards): New Orleans Austin Los Angeles Chicago Las Vegas Do Americans agree? I think they should be asking people who live in these cities. Austinites (and most visitors) seem to love their city, as do most Chicagoans. -- "Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. Is that because Americans fought Hitler, while the French and the Italians supported him? Oh really? The French supported him?!?! Depends on how you define "the French". The Vichy government came AFTER the Germans had forced France to surrender and left part of France as a rump state under their control. Saying the French supported Hitler is a bit like saying Chechoslovakia supported Hitler because the rump state left after it lost the Sudetenland and Slovakia was controlled by the Germans. Yet, France did have some fairly strong Fascist organizations and parties, even before 1939, and Petain wasn't much of a democrat. -- ************* DAVE HATUNEN ) ************* * Tucson Arizona, out where the cacti grow * * My typos & mispellings are intentional copyright traps * |

The whole cuteness of Europeans adopting Hegelian dialectics, where contradictions are acceptable and fascism is enjoyed by that continent. I find it interesting that Europeans think that there is such a thing as a "typical" American city. There's not such thing as a typical American, period. We're too diverse. My wife and I have travelled extensively, but we've never been to Europe. We were discussing this the other day and decided that we have no interest in going there. I'll go back to New Zealand, Australia, South America, ... but I doubt that I will ever set a foot in any country in Europe. No great loss. My point indeed: Americans are the most IGNORANT people on the planet Because I have no interest in Europe? Funny. Talk about ignorant. You have been called idiot by several on the NG. Give it up. I'm Canadian, not American, however the arrogance of you anti-American types shows your OWN ignorance. |
