Shipyard Fire Damages Holland America Vessel Under Construction

MIAMI, Oct. 17
Holland America Line, a unit of Carnival Corporation & plc (NYSE: CCL;
LSE)(NYSE: CUK) reported that its cruise ship under construction at
the Fincantieri Shipyard in Marghera, Italy has experienced a fire.

A fire began on the stern section of the 82,000-ton vessel at
approximately 7:30 a.m. local time on October 17 and was extinguished
by 11 a.m. local time. No injuries were reported.

The extent of damage to the ship cannot be fully determined at this
time. To be named Westerdam, the 1,848-passenger vessel is scheduled
for delivery on April 15, 2004.

Fire broke out early today aboard Holland America Line's Westerdam,
under construction at Fincantieri's Marghera yard. The blaze was
extinguished with no injuries, according to Carnival Corp.

In a photo, smoke billows from the aft end of the superstructure,
just behind the ship's funnels. Carnival said the blaze began on the
stern section of the 82,000gt vessel at approximately 7:30 a.m. local
time and was extinguished by 11 a.m.

The extent of the damage could not be immediately determined,
Carnival said. The 1,848-passenger newbuild, the third in HAL's Vista
series, is scheduled for April 15 delivery.

As I understand it, but I could be wrong
A single holding company owns both of them, (World's greatest cruise company
or something like that) but the company is highly identified with Carnival.

the cruise lines they own..
