Default Any advice re trip to Sydney?

Arriving Sydney 20th September 07 until 1st October 07. Am familiar with
most Sydney attractions having been there several times (from NZ) but just
wondered if there are any special attractions or performances tying in with
these dates. All suggestions welcome.

Hi Fred

Be very glad that you are not arriving this week. Courtesy of the APEC
conference
there is a huge fence running through Sydney with armed checked points.
Hopefully
they have cleared it all away by the time you are here.

From the 15 - 23 Sept it is History Week in NSW. I picked up a brochure and
there seems to be some interesting things on, some of them free, but needing
a booking.
The website for that is http://www.historycouncilnsw.org.au but there is
also information
at http://www.hht.net.au and http://www.nsw.nationaltrust.com.au.

Are you interested in museums or public art galleries? Sometimes
exhibitions that
are touring the world are just where you need them to be. Here are the big
ones in Sydney.

http://www.powerhousemuseum.com
http://www.sl.nsw.gov.au (where there is an exhibition of photographer Max
Dupain's work)
http://www.harbourtrust.com.au
the historic houses trust site (see above) lists a few of the museums like
the Sydney museum
and the Police Museum - it looks fascinating but is only opened limited
hours :-((

Are you more a sports person. Maybe you would like to join the locals at a
football game?
Tickets may be impossible for the first grade matches in rugby league and
aussie rules, as it is
so close to grand finals, but some of the suburban matches could be just as
good. Horse
racing is very chancey at the moment, but they may have sorted something out
by the time
you arrive. If you like water sports, apart from the obvious, you may like
to look into canoe
trips around the harbour in a guided group.

If you feel like a walk, why not look into the Bronte to Tamarama coastal
walk. Nothing too
strenuous and it something the locals do on a Sunday morning on the way to
brunch! Spectalular
scenery. This walk ties in with the Bondi Explorer Bus route. If you are
feeling good you
could go all the way down to Bondi Beach. You'd have to check out regular
bus services
for times and routes though unless you are staying out that way.

It will be Spring, so there will be lots of open gardens - look here a bit
closer to the date to
see what will be open that weekend

Hope this all of some help

Chris

Thanks Chris. I actually posted this for a couple who are friends of mine
but not familiar with newsgroups. They are thrilled with the pointers you
have given. Much appreciated.
