Default Hovenweep Natl Monument (Utah) and Canyon of the Ancients (C

Yesterday we decided to take a day trip (against my staunch
objections).
First of all, it was 87 degrees, which did NOT make me the least bit
happy.
Second of all, these places are in the middle of nowhere. Forget
getting a
coke or snack. NO concessions anywhere to be found.

The staff at the "visitor's center" were two young guys in uniform who
prove
the notion that "good employees are hard to find". Despite his
efforts, you
couldn't understand a word of what he was saying when he was
"explaining"
things. (Why do young people inist on mumbling when they talk!).

Finally, we meandered out to the first "ruin". Big deal. It was hot
and
miserable. We walked around a bit. I sat in the shade and sweated
while DH
walked around a bit more and stared at a few more "ruins" (that
looked, for
the most part, like the first ones).

For my money this trip was a complete waste of time. Mesa Verde,
about 60
miles to the East is much more interesting - and you can buy Indian
Fry
Bread - which is delicious! It would still have been just as hot
though!

Em
prefers air conditioning
