Just announced, American and United have agreed to merge by the end of the
year. They are also planning to order 25-50 new Airbus A380s for a major expansion to Asia/Pacific. Great news! |

Breaking News: AA and UA to merge!

Just announced, American and United have agreed to merge by the end of the year. Will it be American United, or United American ? Unimerican ? The lost cost will certaitly be AmeriTed. Will the combined airline be member of Star or Oneworld ? If they are Star, will the mean the end of Oneworld ? Will American make the fleet decisions or will it be United ? (aka: 747s and Airbus, or all boeing small planes). Will there be a series between the Denver Broncos, Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears to determine where the merged airline will have it main hub ? Or will the mayors bribe the new airline like they did to Boeing to have Boeing's head office ? Won't the combined entity have to relinquish a whole tons of slots at LHR ? And more importantly, will the livery be the no-paint from AA, or the real livery from UA ? Or will the combined one go for the euro letter-hjead livery (white fuselage with logo on tail and black text on fuselage). ? |

Breaking News: AA and UA to merge!
You know, this is going to cause a lot of union problems with pilot seniority.
With AA's most senior pilots restricted to tiny 777s, won't this give unfair advantage to UA's 747 pilots ? Or will AA's most senior pilots get to displace 747 pilots ? And what will happen to young preppy pilots like Mark Rogers ? Will he be bumped down to Beech 1900Ds ? Or will he get to drive the big A380s that someone else said the combined entity would order ? |

Well if it's going to cause such horrendous problems then how come it's not a banner headline on ABC, or CNN's website. Because the story is embargoed until April 1 00:01 local time, and this hasn't yet reached the USA. So they were able to learn about it in europe and newfoundland before it is to be released in the USA. |

But wait..... That's not all Here we are reading about what would be one of the largest aviation newstories this year in such barnburning newsgroups as rec.travel.air, alt.travel.uk.air, aus.aviation, alt.disasters.aviation, and last but not least rec.aviation.piloting Maybe Ralphie and Bertie the Bunyip know something CNN doesn't. I just saw this in the news. The combined airline will be taken over by the Bush Administration and renamed TSA, with Tom Ridge in charge. Will the combined airline be member of Star or Oneworld ? If they are Star, will the mean the end of Oneworld ? It will belong to the newly created Bin Laden Alliance. Its main hubs will be in Bagdad, Iraq, and Islamabad, Pakistan. Won't the combined entity have to relinquish a whole tons of slots at LHR ? Probably, since they won't be needing them. The bulk of it's flying will be A380s between Kandahar, Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. And more importantly, will the livery be the no-paint from AA, or the real livery from UA ? Or will the combined one go for the euro letter-hjead livery (white fuselage with logo on tail and black text on fuselage). ? It will be a stealth scheme, like the old United, except it will be all gray, without the other colors. That way the planes can slip in and out of airports undetected. |
