Default freeloading networks ?

Some one told me there was network of travellers which communicated
and helped each other out , i.e. providing rooms if someone was in the
vicinity, does any one know anything about this I've found nothing.

I have heard of something called "Servas" but I don't know anything useful
about it. Perhaps you could google for them.
