Default US immigration Notebook Checks ?

I just found out that US immigration do a check of your notebook to
see if the battery has been replaced by explosives.

So what happens if you battery is too low to switch it on ,you don't
have one or it's a uk machine like mine that needs an adapter ?

I do have an adapter but my notebook doesn't have a keyboard because
I'm waiting for a new one I hope to get sent over while I'min the us ,
so I can't turn it on enven if I wanted to .

It sounds like I might have problem , does any one have any
suggestions as I really need to take my notebook with me ??

thanks

That's always been an issue with security, but I've never heard of
*immigration* doing a check on this, outbound security yes. Are you sure you
aren't mixing them up? I figured it would be U.S. Customs who did these
checks on inbound goods anyway.

But as I say it's been the case for a long time that for any electronic item
you need to be able to switch it on to show it works. So if your laptop is
broken, probably best not to take it with you.

If it is like most laptop, it can handle the voltage and frequency, but
probably just needs a plug adapter. You will need one if you plan on
using it in the US anyway, so why not have one available in case you
need to power it up. This might be needed for a security check, if you
are changing to another flight after arrival. I doubt Immigration would
care about your computer's ability to boot.
