Default Freeport/Nassau -Booking your own shore excursions

Will be visiting both Freeport/Nassau in less than two weeks via
Carnival-Celebration and wanted to see if it was worth my advantage to try
to book my
own shore excursion once I leave the ship vs those offered by Carnival?

Any suggestions on whats best to see especially in Freeport. I've heard
there's not a whole lot to do/see in Freeport.

Thanks
