The definition of nudism has been a recurring hot topic here over the
years. You may think it shouldn't have been, but it was. Some want
to keep a definition simple, general, and inclusive. Others want to
use it to exclude everyone they don't like or don't approve of, and it
turns out that many of these dislike or disapprove of almost everyone.

We're a diverse lot. Live with it.

Hey, that's what we're here for. Done properly, it clarifies the

And, on your paragraph above, you'd win. Easily. "If it walks like a

The trouble is, in the past when I've stated that actions (or lack
thereof) speak louder than self-classification, I've taken a lot of
pushback -- although probably not from you. Here in rec.nude when
I've tried to estimate the number of USA adult nudists, the naysayers
howl when I include all the people who don't consider themselves
nudists or naturists and don't belong to any organization, but who
nevertheless swim nude in back yard pools among family and friends. I
think they're social nudists.

I don't remember what forum, but I once said that France is an atheist
nation. Oh, the howls!!! I was promptly told that more than half of
the French self-declare as Catholics while only 31% say they're
atheists. What those folk didn't mention is that the "more than half"
is 51% and that half of that 51% also say they don't believe in any
god. That tells me that 31% + 25.5% = 56% of the French are atheists
-- a substantial majority.

Ah, well, people are people. They aren't consistent. Me,

Seriously, the nudist population is getting gray. There's no doubt about
that. Young people tend to be a bit more shy than we aging hippies. We
need to do something about that.

You do see SOME young people in naturism. But we need their numbers to
be greater, no doubt about it.
