Default UK travel insurance - advice please

Hello everyone.

My family and I are going to Australia this August. Finding travel
insurance is becoming a bit of a problem as we have pre-booked a hot air
balloon flight in Alice Springs. It seems that most insurers are not
interested in covering us for the duration of our trip because of this
one excursion. I'd appreciate any pointers to a reliable insurer in the
UK. We are a family of 2 adults and two teenagers.

Thanks,
Simon.

You will find this in a lot of cases. Remember that there is a reciprocal
agreement between the UK and Australia for basic health care - it doesn't
cover things like repatriation but since you're with your family that is
probably less important.

Most companies will provide travel coverage but exclude various "dangerous"
activities, such as hot air ballooning, diving, and in at least one
instance, hiking.

Most in this NG will disagree with me, but I'd say "give it a miss" since
you're with family, your main concern seems to be one highly-regulated
activity with a pretty good safety record, and you're covered for the
big-ass disasters anyway.

Thanks for your thoughts Raffi.

What this means is simply that you are not covered for the
actual balloon trip. The chances are however that the balloon
operator has cover for this anyway. I'd advise checking
with them.

Good point, thanks Keith.

Hey,

GetCover.com, are who I use, and "hot air ballooning which has been
organised in the UK prior to departure," is considered an acceptable sports
and leisure activity.

Check them out @ www.getcover.com
