Default Virgin Blue baggage and carry-on baggage restrictions ...

as far as carry-ons go ... the Virgin website lists the per passenger
carry-on baggage restrictions at 2 pieces with total weight not to exceed 7
kg ... do they commonly weigh the carry-ons before they let you on?

the checked baggage restriction is 20 kg ... how stringently is this
inforced ... would it make sense to send the excess baggage as Virgin Blue
freight?

we anticipate 3 ticketed passengers with 2 bags per passenger ... each bag
at 30 kg, which makes our SYD-OOL flight ungodly expansive due to too much
luggage ... it seems almost funny that our fair is priced at $66 AUD per
person (plus tax) and the excess luggage will be approx $200 AUD per person
.... hard to believe!

Three people each carrying 60kg of baggage, what are you bringing, a
complete set of mechanics tools plus the kitchen sink?

Seriously, take less.

If you are immigrating you will find the airlines quite reasonable. When I
immigrated Qantas gave me 200Kg free baggage allowance for my family of four
(10 suitcases).
Just ask for an increased free baggage allowance. You might be surprised.

Qantas will - Virgin wont and neither will Jetstar. I had the misfortune to
fly Virgin to Melbourne the other week and there was a few heated debates
about carry on bags and excess baggage weights.

And then we had to wait nearly 50 minutes to get the bags in Melbourne - on
a 2 hour flight!!

Coming back we were treated to a 1970s stereotype of a "Hostie" - "At the
back of the cabin Mandy, in the middle Sandy and of course I'm Randy".

If you're migrating you're presumably freighting some stuff?

Freight is cheaper than excess baggage.
