Top judge arrested over train 'flasher' investigation

One of Britain's most senior judges has been arrested for allegedly
flashing at a woman on a train.

Lord Justice Richards, who sits in the Court of Appeal, was held on
Friday following a complaint from a female passenger that a man exposed
himself to her. It was said to have happened in the London area last
year.
Sir Stephen Richards, 56, a married father-of-three, denies the
allegation and was released on police bail. The judge, who lives in
Wimbledon, south-west London, was arrested by British Transport Police.
A police spokeswoman said: "On Friday we arrested a 56-year-old man in
connection with an investigation. He was released on police bail to
return to Ebury Bridge police station on March 2. As this investigation
is still ongoing it would be inappropriate to give further details."
Sir Stephen confirmed to the News of the World that he had been
arrested. He told the news-paper: "Yes, that is correct. I spoke to
police and gave them my full co-operation about an incident last
October which I deny. I have not been charged and have been bailed in
the usual manner."
He married his wife Lucy in 1976 and has two sons and a daughter. He
became a Lord Justice of Appeal in 2005.
