It seems to be human nature for some to wait till the last minute or forget the the due date when they booked months in advance. That is why they gave a few days grace. There was a reason they were not strict. Why change now? And it will make another reason for people not to book in advance. -- Charles |

Most cruise lines have the ability in their systems to store the CC number and other information and automatically charge on the due date. I have never had a client cancel when using this feature. If they don't want to use this feature I do let them know about 5 days before. That way if they want to send a check I can get it through before the drop-dead date. |

STIFF RULES Are a Coming!

wrote: You have a good agent. A phone call or email a few days before the due date is good customer service. I have always booked with the premise that final payment date is the absolute deadline, and am never going to leave it to chance. Since I am a worrier I always call my agent about a week in advance of the due date and say go ahead and charge my card. Over the 15 years that I done cruises I have used different travel agents and most have notified me a week or two in advance. After all they are getting a commission so they want to get the payment in. Some did not notify me in advance but I am pretty sure I beat them to it with my call. There are probably people out there who put a deposit down and then don't decide up to the final payment date to actually take the cruise or never intended to take the cruise. That may be the reason for making the rules stiffer. A few who abuse cause rule changes. But there are a good number of laid back or forgetful people or busy people who wait to the last minute to pay. The type that have a habit of getting to the airport or train station just before they close the gate. They have every intention to make the payment. With a large purchase like a cruise I think they should keep a small grace period as customer service. -- Charles |
