Default REX air backpacker pass

I just saw this for $499, tax-in, unlimited travel for a month. Anyone have
experience on this? The fine print contains the usual "subject to
availability" wording. Any comments on this i.e. is it usually not a drama
or are such seats hen's teeth during high season/school holidays?

See the website http://www.rex.com.au/offers/index.aspx
It seems as though they are standby fares. So I guess it depends on the
sorts of things you mention whether you'd get on all the time, certain
flights are more popular than others, eg early morning and evening flights
are popular with the business fraternity, beginning and end of school
holidays are also more popular. Major sporting events eg Melbourne Cup day
attract a lot of business, Easter time is also popular. So I guess you'd
have to be prepared to wait around for following flights at times.
