Fehmarn Germany--any info?
We are planning a European tour next year in April. We hope to visit my
husband's family's anstestral home of Fehmarn--a tiny island off the coast of Norhtern Germany. We would love to hear from anyone who has visited this gorgeous little island--and especially anyone with lodging info, train or bus info, etc. We may need to get all the way from Paris or Stuttgard germany via train or some sort of public transportation. Any suggtions? |

Any suggtions? Getting to Fehmarn is a pretty easy task. Just enter "Puttgarden" as a destination. This is the train station/harbor on Fehmarn where all the trains from Germany to Denmark and Sweden are packed on ferry boats. Fehmarn itself is connected to the main land by the impressive Fehmarnsund bridge. Jens |

Any suggtions? Public transport is easy - it's definitly the island with the best rail connection from Germany. Stuttgart - Puttgarden needs 7,5 hours with 1 change (Hamburg). Paris - Puttgarden is barely doable in one day. Both cities are anything but close to Fehmarn. To get public transport information is easy: http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/english.html From: Stuttgart (or Paris) To: Landkirchen (as an example, plenty of stop choices in Landkirchen will appear) You can get connections with public transport from the DB timetable to any place in Germany. Public transport on the island itself is of course less frequent than e.g. in Stuttgart or Paris ;-) Lodging should be not impossible to find on a vacation island. http://www.ostsee-schleswig-holstein...fehmarn_00.htm (e) http://www.fehmarn-info.de/ (d) http://www.insel-fehmarn.de/ (d) |

"Ulf Kutzner" schrieb im Newsbeitrag ... Martin Stock schrieb: Public transport is easy - it's definitly the island with the best rail connection from Germany. What about Rügen and Sylt? Regards, ULF have also good rail connections, but only Fehmarn is directly on a major route (Hamburg - Copenhagen). And it is the onliest island which can be reached from two sides by train. The other two islands are rather at the end of some infrequent and in the final part rather slow far distances trains. But local train service is better there (as Rügen and Sylt are bigger (in terms of inhabitants and tourists)). |
