Yellowsteon redux
Okay, here is what my reservation confirmation from Xanterra says:
"Thank you for your deposit of $416.70. Your reservation will be held throughout your arrival night. Cancel within 2 days - 1 night lost." This sounds like I would not get a full refund, even if I cancel within 2 days. Correct? If so, I wonder how much money they keep every year just from cancellations, even though you know they can probably fill that spot in two seconds. Marsha |

We are staying at Old Faithful Inn. As long as you did not book to stay in the original part of the inn you are ok. It needs a great deal of remodeling. A cabin would be better. There are buffalo that do go through that area. The week I was there in July there was a woman who was not paying attention as she was talking on her phone. (You can get some phone coverage in a few places in Yellowstone, but most of the park is dead zone.) A buffalo came up behind her and gored her. Please be careful of the animals! If you stop to see a buffalo, check the wind direction. You want to be down wind from it! Yellowstone is an amazing place. If you look in the camping thread I have some picture posted from my trip. -- Dymphna Message origin: www.TRAVEL.com |

(You can get some phone coverage in a few places in Yellowstone, but most of the park is dead zone.) Actually it depends on the carrier. For GSM (AT&T and T-Mobile) most of the park has no coverage. On CDMA (at least Verizon) most of the roads have coverage. When we were there last year we had a group of three families. One family had AT&T and we could rarely reach them, while the other family with Verizo we (with Verizon) could usually reach. Also, there was still some AMPS (analog) only areas (even though by that time carriers were permitted to turn off AMPS they were not required to turn it off and smaller carriers, like one of the ones that covers Yellowstone kept it on because you can cover large areas with very few towers). When traveling outside of urban areas, if your primary carrier is AT&T or T-Mobile, it's a good idea to get a prepaid tri-band (CDMA 800/CDMA 1900/AMPS) phone on PagePlus which uses Verizon and other CDMA networks. It costs as little as $2.31/month, and you can use any old Verizon handset (they'll sell you a refurb if you want). Activation is under $6 with 100 minutes included (you can also get it activated for free if you know how). See "http://prepaiduswireless.com" for details. |

That's the only description I have, which comes from this site: http://www.travelyellowstone.com/old...ul-inn-96.html My reservation room type says only high-range room with 2 double beds. Marsha |
