Default US seeks more ships for hurricane relief

From Seatrade Insider:
================================
US seeks more ships for hurricane relief
5/9/2005
The Military Sealift Command is actively working on charters of additional
passenger ships for hurricane relief efforts on the Gulf Coast, a spokesman
told Seatrade Insider.
He could not say when the charters are expected to be finalized or how many
additional berths are sought.

On Friday, another MSC spokesperson told Seatrade Insider that up to 25,000
berths are needed.

So far, the number of passenger-ship berths secured for Hurricane Katrina
relief totals approximately 8,000, counting Carnival's Ecstasy (2,600),
Sensation (2,600) and Holiday (1,800), plus the ferry, Scotia Prince
(1,000).

Scotia Prince can also handle 200 cars.

It would take a couple of months just to tow her back. And she'd be in
open waters without propulsion during the height of hurricane season.

She'd never arrive.
