Default Remember horse racing??

My understanding is that most lines have stopped it because so many
passengers figured out that it was rigged, and didn't want to be associated
with it. And yes, as a former Cruise Director, I can tell you for certain
that it was a fixed race in most cases, and yes, it brought in lots of $$$,
specifically for the CD (though I got into the CD gig after most of it was
stopped...
damn! It's all timing!)

BTW and fyi, the race featuring the horses the passengers bought and
decorated wasn't fixed... no advantage, since everyone knew what the pot
totaled, and the company couldn't get any of it.

Do they still do that on some cruises? I haven't seen it !!!

Hi All,

We were part of a group of Canadians who bought a horse on the Stella
Solaris Trans Atlantic cruise (Spring '99). Our horse was named "Viagra
Falls", and we won the final race. I think each couple got about $50.00
back from our $20.00 investment.

The funniest horse racing "event" we saw in all our cruising was on the
RotterdamV. One horse was named "Hoof Hearted", and, according to their
introductory speel, was fed exclusively on beans in preparation for his
race. You can imagine the laughs that came from the crowd when the CD did
the play-by-play announcement of the race. He pretended he didn't even know
what he was saying. It was a real "stinker".

We just returned from the Radiance and we put together an "ownership

group"
to purchase a horse. We bid and won. On the advice of one of our group, a
real gambler, we took # 4, apparently her lucky number. We trained it all
week, carried it around with us everywhere, got her picture taken with the
captain and fed it a steady diet of pizza and Budweiser. Our jockey,

Kimmie,
showed up in a bikini with a coconut shell top and a feathered Mardi Gras
mask. Very distracting for the other jockeys! (All part of our strategy).

We even foiled a horsenapping plot!

Anyway, our horse won! It was a double overtime, come from behind, down to
the wire, PHOTO FINISH! I'm not making any of this up. We won a bundle and
had a ball doing it. There is a picture of our "Winners Circle" on
www.webshots.com search for user mrtractor1.

This was our first experience getting involved in this since our first
cruise in 1990. I've seen it on most of the ships but haven't bothered

doing
it. Besides being an old cruising tradition, it can be great fun! I am
writing a story about this and will try to get it in one of the paper mags
this coming year. Stay tuned.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
