Default Fuel prices dont seem to effect cruise prices

I just got a great quote a Carnival cruise but the price of the plane
trip from Boston down to Florida is more than killing the savings.
I wonder why Airline tickets are so high when cruise line prices have
not gone up.

The airlines can mothball planes on short notice and they can cut
flights and cram people into fewer flights. That creates demand for a
smaller amount of seats available. Cruise line prices for the Caribbean
are soft right now because demand is down and more ships, which means
more berths, are coming online because those ships were planned years
ago. Also cruises are a leisure industry and people can cut that out
and do something cheaper like for example, camp. Air travel does have
the leisure aspect but a large part of the demand is business travel.

The softening of people cruising might also have to do with everyone
starting to feel the pinch of the increase in gas prices. I've gotten
notices from a few service providers I deal monthly about fuel price
surcharges of $10 to $15 each. Add all that together along with a big
increase from the airlines & people start to look twice about taking that
second cruise vacation.
