Default Philippines tourist new security measures

Dear friends,

I read on another group that there is an article in today's
Philippines Star saying new regulations require photographing and
finger printing new arrivals to the Philippines. This will not
encougage toursim, not so much because it is an invasion as privacy,
but mostly because of the the long time in waiting in the airport
after a long trip. I hope this is not true. Living in Cebu, and
having been living in Cebu so long, know the tourist who come here
reaonably well, almost as well as I did in the small town of Angeles.
They will be grumpy or down right upset before they check into their
hotels. Upset visitors, needed visitors are not good, especially when
the get upset when they arrive.

I hope there is not truth to this article.

Very best always,
Don

I went through the archives of both the Philippine Star and the Manila
Bulletin and found nothing to this affect (there was an interesting
story about a standoff between gunmen and Philippine troops at the
control tower in the International Airport...seems like the Filipino's
have been living in "interesting times"...hope it's more quiet when I
travel there next year!) Anyway, my wife spoke with a friend on the
phone who had recently returned from a trip there and she said they
weren't doing these things either when she arrived (which was in
October). Let's hope that it is just a rumor.

Read the article. This may be a discouragement for visiting
the RP, and seems like another stupid American idea on
"war" on "terrorism".

I'll visit Manila and NAIA this winter and see for myself
how much of a nuisance this is, and report back to the
European travel media.

I stand corrected (sadly)...donn't know how I missed it. I did
archive searches using "arrivals", "NAIA", etc. and it never came up.
Anyway, please let us know how it goes. I'll be traveling there at
the end of February...sad to see that they are taking their security
lessons from the Bush administration... sigh ...

Stupidity is indeed infectious, even across the Pacific.

I suggest the Yankees build their own terminal, and perform
their beloved "w.o.t." games for themselves there :-) :-)
