Best City in U.S. to Live

Too cold: Madison, Wisconsin Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota Ann Arbor, Michigan Albany, New York Colorado Springs, Colorado Boulder, Colorado Which leaves: Indianapolis, Indiana Please let me know if I'm making any incorrect assumptions. Well, based on the mass exodus from Colorado Springs to the beaches of Indianapolis every winter I guess you've got it right. miguel -- Hundreds of travel photos from around the world: http://travel.u.nu/ |

for us. :-) me wrote: (Matt Beckwith) wrote in message . com... Thanks again for all the suggestions. Here is my list, based on your input, with some cities eliminated for various reasons: [snip] Which leaves: Davis, California Phoenix, Arizona Seattle, Washington Portland, Oregon Indianapolis, Indiana Please let me know if I'm making any incorrect assumptions. Ya did see where Portland and Seattle were on some "most stressful" list recently. Roughly based on things like suicide rates, unemployment rates, etc. |

I'm going to recommend he head for the PNW, and better yet, stop by CA and pick up a few hitchhikers to take up. -- --- Eric Holeman Chicago Illinois USA |

I guess you never really looked at the weather in these areas. Indianapolis is considerably colder in the winter than Boulder is. IMHO, Boulder is also a much more laid-back town than Indy. But as always, YMMV. -Lynne |

Best City in U.S. to Live
Perhaps I'm partial, but:
Exclusions for Career Considerations: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania The majority of the people I know in a variety of fields have good jobs. If you look at the medical field, for instance, the local hospitals can't hire enough people. These medical jobs are well paid with good benefits, etc. Pittsburgh took a hit in the tech sector like everyplace else, but I would be willing to bet that on a percentage basis, more jobs were lost out on the West Coast than in Pittsburgh. New Construction jobs are easy to come by, and pay well. Any thing having to do with new home construction, plumbing, electrical, etc etc is booming. My friend, a Master Plumber, has been turning down jobs because he can't get enough (qualified) help. With this being said, construction is DOWN, but that doesn't mean its BAD, its just lower than it was. Pittsburgh unemployment, as of Dec 2003, is about 5.8%, about .2% under the national average. Also, when looking at Pittsburgh statistics, you have to remember that only 330,000 people live in the city proper, and that the bulk of the people (literally 91%) live in the 'burbs. IMHO, life is considerably different there. FWIW, Keith Pittsburgh Please let me know if I'm making any incorrect assumptions. Matt |
