Default Carlsberg Elephant

Hello All!

For a while, Carlsberg Elephant beer was bottled in Canada but it's now
coming, labelled "Brewed and bottled in Denmark". The strength is given
as "7.2% alcohol by volume". I seem to remember that the Elephant I
bought in Copenhagen was stronger than 7.2%. Is this so or am I
imagining it?

Hey, that's pretty strong! What does it taste like?

It's not very bitter but I like it. The Carlsberg company describes it
as a "strong pilsner". Someone has just told me that "Carlsberg Special
Brew" is stronger and I might have been remembering that.

I can't tell you for sure about the alcohol content, but I can attest to
it being good beer. My first of three trips to Denmark was 10 years ago
today. I travelled there with two of my brothers to look after some
family business in Denmark and then travel through Germany and France.
We had planned to drink only the local beer wherever we were. They rated
Carlsberg Elephant beer as the best they had on the trip.

FWIW, I bought some Carlsberg beer last week. It is imported from
Denmark and 5%. Another Danish beer, Faxe, is available here in Canada
in either 5% or 10%.

Thanks, I wonder what European beer companies are *not* owned by
Carlsberg if you look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlsberg ?

There is a picture there showing the actual Carlsberg brews, seven of
them including Master and Special. I'm going to have visit Denmark again
:-)

I remember that Carlsburg was being marketed in Canada about 40 years
ago, apparently "under licence" nu Labatts ? , but as far as I could
tell, it wasn't much different from their other beers. It sure wasn't as
good as the real Danish Carlsberg.
