Having flown into Oakland International, San Jose, and San Francisco via airlines as well as the airport in Hollister and Palo Alto...... I'd say for dommercial jets Oakland is easier.. parking is cheaper and you can park closer to the terminal complex... From the Peninsula and South Bay, Oakland is a miserable airport unless you're doing late night or early morning. Unfortunately, Jet Blue and Southwest have much better routes from Oakland than San Jose. The new mid-Bay bridge, linking Interstate 380 in the West Bay with 238 in the East Bay, will help to solve this problem, but not in my lifetime, and it's still a little too far south of OAK. I like SFO the best. Accessible by BART, and Cal Train, and SamTrans, and plenty of free parking if you know where to park near the Millbrae BART/CalTrain station. Downside is that many of the low-fare airlines avoid SFO. Upside is that for main line airlines, fares are often lower out of SFO than SJC or OAK, and a lot more non-stops. Another upside is that SJC has fewer red-eyes due to the city's curfew. |
