England: Guided versus self-guided?
If you're looking to visit particular cities, then going by bus or
train might work. You could then take city buses (or London tube) in the cities themselves. But to get out into the countryside you really need a car, and, frankly, enough time to get experience driving safely on the narrow country roads on the other side of the road. Your budget for B&Bs is more than enough. You could probably get a few guidebooks and plan the Britain trip yourselves. For London, consider Rick Steves' _London_ books. For the rest of Britain, Steves' book might work (I personnally don't have it - I have the Doris and Michelin books) too. I likes Steves' books for their 'self-guided' tours through, e.g. the British Museum. It's light on detail but a good intro. All the big museums have maps, too, of course. -- Dan Stephenson Photos and movies from my 3-month European vacation: http://homepage.mac.com/stepheda (remove nospam from email address if replying) |
