Jungle Lodge in Manaus area of Brazil for people with limited mobility?
My wife and I would like to stay at a jungle lodge in the Manaus area
in February of 2004. However, I have limited mobility as I need to use a walking cane or crutch to get around. My wife is totaly mobile I would appreciate any opinions on which jungle lodge might be best and whether I would be able to get around satisfactorily in the lodge and participate in most of the normaly scheduled tour activities (except probably not the jungle walks)with this level of limited mobility). |

Jungle Lodge in Manaus area of Brazil for people with limited mobility?
Dear Gary:
If I take my experience in a Peruvian lodge near Iquitos, the hardest part for you would have been getting there. For instance, in Iquitos, you deplane with airstairs. The embankments everywhere have many many steps (but maybe not in February, when the water level is much higher). Once you are at the lodge, if it is a good one, the guides should be happy to adapt the activities to your capabilities. At the lodge where I stayed, the most perilous spots were the muddy / slippery embankment where you got in and out of the boat, and a short ladder where you entered the compound. Everyone was extremely attentive and careful to my needs (no handicap, just klutz). Get a feel for it at http://www.calcaf.com/Peru/Peru11.html Go for it, nice and slow, and you'll be fine. It's NOT mountain climbing. ************** O.H. |
