Toronto Pearson (YYZ) airport bus improvement
Starting on Sunday, TTC buses serving Toronto's Lester B. Pearson
International Airport will stop at all three terminals. Now that its frequency has also improved from the old 45-minute service, I think this will make their 192 Airport Rocket route a desirable choice for a substantial number of passengers. Passengers wanting a bus to Toronto now have the following choices: * Airport Express http://www.torontoairportexpress.com/ - single fare $15.50, $26.75 return; 10-trip fare available - highway-type buses with luggage compartments - serves all terminals - runs express to downtown where it serves a circuit of major hotels. (Short walk to the subway if you get off at the Royal York Hotel.) - basic service every 30 minutes, every 20 at some times - trip time about 30-45 minutes when traffic is light, depending on your exact trip * GO Transit http://www.gotransit.com Brampton - York Mills route - single fare $3.65; 10-trip fare available - some buses have luggage compartments - serves only terminals 1 and 2 - semi-express service to York Mills and Yorkdale subway stations (in north part of city, about 20 minutes from downtown) - in the other direction, runs to Brampton - basic service every 60 minutes, every 30 or better at some times - trip time when traffic is light, about 25 minutes to York Mills, 35 minutes to Yorkdale * TTC http://www.toronto.ca/ttc/ - single fare $2.25, includes free transfers as needed to reach anywhere in Toronto via subway, streetcar, and/or city bus routes; 5-trip fare (good for any TTC routes) available, but possibly not at the airport (you have to go to a subway station or a store that sells TTC tickets or tokens, and I don't know if anyone at the airport does). - ordinary city buses, no luggage compartments - serves all terminals - routes: * 192 Airport Rocket - express to Kipling subway station (in west part of city, about 35 minutes from downtown; enters fare-paid area of station, so you don't need to show anything to transfer) - every 20 minutes - trip time about 20 minutes when traffic is light * 58 Malton - ordinary local city bus running along Lawrence Avenue to Lawrence West subway station (in north part of city, about 20 minutes from downtown; enters fare-paid area of station) - mostly every 24 or 30 minutes, more frequent at some times - trip time about 50 minutes when traffic is light - also runs in the other direction to certain points in Mississauga along Airport Road, but costs more that way. - During the overnight hours from about 1:30 am to 6 am when most TTC routes (including the subway) are shut down, the TTC still serves the airport with two night bus routes, the 300 Bloor-Danforth and the 307 Eglinton West, which run along the streets named. There is an error in your otherwise good posting. The TTC Airport Rocket service is every 20 minutes, as can be confirmed at http://www.city.toronto.on.ca/ttc/se...to_airport.htm I've used it several times over the few years it has been in service, and it has always been at this frequency, or close to it. It is a bargain, and during rush hours it is faster than the Airport Express buses, including most downtown hotels. It is less than fifteen minutes Airport to Kipling subway station, then about 25-40 minutes to downtown [depending on destination subway station]. It has always served all Terminals, what changes is the precise drop-off/pick-up points, a result of the disruption caused by the construction of the new terminal. The TTC website will tell you which level and location to find it. Since it is not a high profit airport private enterprise service there are no big signs leading potential users to it. But a little perseverance will result in fast, cheap, excellent service to all points of Toronto [and beyond, if you use GO Transit [bus or train] or VIA train service]. BTW, the exact fare is $2.25 in Canadian currency. http://www.city.toronto.on.ca/ttc/fares.htm If you have US currency, someone on the bus will usually help you, I'd suggest offering $1.70-1.75 US for one token/ticket/cash. If you have Euros, or other currency, there are currency exchange places inside that will give you a terrible exchange rate, better to use the banks or exchange places downtown where there is some competition. A minor correction to Mark Brader's post (assuming he will post it in the future with updates): Mark has reversed his Yorks (easy to do). The GO bus runs from the airport to Yorkdale (first) in 25 minutes -in light traffic conditions - and continues to York Mills in 35 minutes from the Airport. In fact the GO bus does serve Terminal 3 using the stop at Airport Road and American Drive. There is a walkway from there to the end of Terminal 3. However one needs to know the times - nobody wants to wait for an hour on Airport Road :-) I fully agree with Harvey Pinder's comment about the lack of signage and information about public transit to Pearson Airport. I remember the look of amazement when I asked someone in Terminal 3 how to find a city bus :-) The really annoying thing is that, as Mark's post shows, there actually is quite good transit to the Airport. -- Harry Dodsworth Ottawa Ontario Canada ---------------------------------------------------------------- |

Maybe always when Harvey used it. When first introduced (in competition with the old Airport Express route to Islington station) it had limited hours and I think it only ran every 45 minutes then. When the competing route was withdrawn, the 192 was extended to full-time service, but was still only every 45 minutes except for Monday to Friday 8 am to 5 pm, or something like that, when it was every 22.5. And it did NOT serve Terminal 1. However, as we are no longer talking about present-day service, this is probably off-topic for both newsgroups, and we should stop here. BTW, the exact fare is $2.25 in Canadian currency. That's also what I said. I did transpose the running times of the GO bus to Yorkdale and York Mills, as mentioned in a separate followup.
