Default A new slant on hotel bargains

Well, it probably would have never occurred to me.

This article appears in today's NY Times travel section. They suggest using
quickbook.com to find good prices, and I've not heard of that site before,
either. There are also links to some general information sites about
hotels: hotelchatter.com and hotelnewsresource.com.

Has anyone used quickbook.com?

The article is he

I compared prices on quikbook.com and the web site I've used for trips
to Reno, tripres.com for Jan 25, 26, 27 at the Grand Sierra

quikbook.com

Mon Tue Wed
$49 $49 $49

TripRes.com

Mon Tue Wed
$49 $25 $25

For NYC at the Bentley:

quikbook.com

Mon Tue Wed
$102 $102 $102

TripRes.com

Mon Tue Wed
$94 $94 $94

Similarly, the Roosevelt was $20/night cheaper through tripres, the
Hudson was $50/night cheaper through tripres, but the Chandler was $4 to
$9 cheaper through quikbook. The Wellington was $51/night cheaper on
tripres.

In short, quikbook tends to not be any great deal. Maybe there are even
better deals through other sites. The problem with tripres is that there
are big cancellation penalties, and you have to cancel far in advance to
get a refund, but the payback is much lower rates in most cases.
