Default Car Rental deals in Orlando

Does anyone know of the most economical and reliable deals at Orlando
for a one week period? We have tried the travelocity and orbitz sites
and the prices seem very high compared to Las Vegas, almost double.
Are there any promo codes etc for Thrifty? Our best price was $280.00
for a midsize all taxes included. ALso, it seems impossible to contact
them at the airport as all calls are routed to their internet line.
Any help or advise will be appreciated. Right now, the car will cost
more than two round trip tickets.

When are you going? It's high season in Florida until after spring
break. $280 for a week is a good deal in the winter and early spring.

The trick you can often use is to get a car from one of the Enterprise
off-airport locations which are far less expensive. The problem with
this is that these locations are typically are open only
Monday-Saturday, and they don't stay open late, so unless you're
arriving and departing on weekdays it can be difficult. They'll pick you
up if it's not too far away form their location (often located in "auto
rows)."

Check the Entertainment Book for coupons, as well as Costco.com (usually
they don't check to see if you're a member).

Watch out for all the no-name small agencies in Orlando, many are ripoffs.

Also, I found that the gas stations nearest the airport in Orlando are
just incredible ripoffs for when you refuel prior to returning the car.

Rental cars in FL are far more in demand than in Las Vegas, particularly
this time of year. In Vegas, many visitor fly in and take a shuttle to
their hotel/casino and never need a car. In Orlanda just about everyone
flying in is getting a car.

If you can arrange it, try renting from a rental office not located at the
airport. If you can and are willing to take a cab into town and rent from
an office in town you will save some on the airport fees that most locals
add to rentals at airports. Of course you need to add this time into your
return trip as well so you can drop the car off at the in-town office as
well.
