Lithium is extremely light.

Like with most things implemented by the TSA, this will probably be
theatre, not actual security, so who knows how effective it will be.

I just hope that someone remembers real security and practices it behind the
scenes, but somehow I doubt it. The visible theater isn't protecting anyone
from anything.

When was the last time you heard of a large scale shampoo attack inside
security?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from where I sit, the TSA has completely
eliminated that threat.

Mac Attack at airports ?

They would Shirley react by banning all MacDonalds within a 5 mile

Every year, my cell company offers me free phones.

And the free phone they offer you just happens
to have the same battery as the one you want
to take as a spare, and there are no ongoing
contract costs for this "free" phone?
The purpose of buying a second hand unlocked
mobile phone is to convert your spare battery
into something which will not be caught out
by any such new regulation.

Why do I need s apare battery, if I have a spare phone?
What ongoing cost would I have that I don't have already?
They give me a new phone and I keep the old phone.
It's not like they force me to use the new phone.
If I want to swap phones, you could just switch the GSM chip.
