A rather haunting travelogue. The English may be less than perfect but
it is very effective with its use of imagery. It sort of makes you want
to visit ... sort of.

Working my way through the Serpent's Wall. Helluva lady. "We don't take
standard trips with their boring guides" indeed.

I contacted this lady a couple of years back, asking her if it was
possible to enter the area with her. She politely said no, in very bad
English. She was very polite, but pushed the point that it wasn't a
tourist destination, and it would not be easy to get in no matter how
determined you were. As I am not a nuclear scientist, don't speak good
Russian, and had no reason to go there, I was unlikely to be let in. I
would have leaped at the opportunity if she would have come at it.

That removed the one and only motivation I had for going to Belarus.

Don't see what the fuss is about - nuclear power is safe: Mixi says so!

Fascinating site, BTW.

One of the best on the web. I look back on it from time to time.

FWIW, nuclear power might just be one of the few decent options left
in the future, despite what we all thought a few years back.
