Default GUIDE TO SURFING IN AUSTRALIA

Be Safe in the Surf

Australian beaches are magic - they're clean and big and free ... but
they can also be very dangerous. Here are some basic precautions to
help you enjoy your time at the beach:

Do:
· Swim on patrolled beaches, between the red and yellow flags
· Comply with the directions of lifesavers
· Watch children constantly when they're in the water
· Take plenty of fresh drinking water to the beach
· Protect yourself from the sun
· Remain calm; if you get into trouble in the water, don't panic.
Raise your arm for help, float and wait for assistance
· Float with a current or undertow. Stay calm. Signal for help and
wait for assistance.

Ah yes...another aussie yet thinking that the usa in rec.travel.usa-canada
stands for the United States of Austrailia. Haven't heard from one of them
in a while. Good to know that these geographically inept folks still exist
down under.

When did they leave the Federation?

BTW, your spell-checker has a problem:-)

Alan -

I suggest you consult with those geographically inept folks down under who
keep posting aussie locales in rec.travel.usa-canada. Most certainly they -
being the ones insistently posting here - can answer your questions better
than I ever can.

ah yes...the spell checker. My bad. But an extra 'eye' in aussie land at
least is in aussie land.

regards,
Lawrence

We've considered your lot to be North-East Australia for
some time now. There is a territorial dispute with New
Zealand, who consider us to be the West Island and all of
the Americas to be the East Island.

Agreed...my take on some of those "few things" are aussies who keep thinking
that usa/canada are part of aussie land. hmmm...or is it aussie land being
part of usa/canada? How do you yourself explain this continued
geopoliticall confusion which finds your mates from there down under making
such posts in rec.travel.usa-canada? Curious minds would like to know how
an aussie thinks....

Could it be concern for the tourists that come to Australia?
Maybe because so many tourists die in the surf in Australia - not
necessarily Americans - but it is frightening how many tourists get off the
plane and immediately head for the surf. The idiots can't swim, won't swim
between the flags, and our lifesavers have to risk their lives to save them.
Why on earth would Aussies think they are part of USA/Canada.
What is more worrying is the Yanks who don't know where Australia is. It is
really really frightening that they can be so ignorant.

The way we would handle such issues here in the good old USA is to have
those folks sign liability waivers as soon as they get off the plane, before
they hit the beaches. Nothing makes an American stop and think once he/she
signs a liability waiver because it obviates all chances for filing a court
suit. You auusies should really consider such a requirement. Then you
wouldn't have to make such posts in rec.travel.usa-canada.

....so are Yanks/Kanucks posting USA/Canada travel sites in an aussie travel
newsgroup? If so, then please direct your worrying bit there to those
misguided Yanks/Kanucks.
