Default interesting mexican vacations?

anyone have suggestions for a quaint, out of the way mexican fishing
village destination? would like to find something with purified water
and safe for visitors, but not touristy at all. maybe too tall an
order huh? i guess playa del carmen used to be like this, but not
anymore really. would like to find a place wife and child and i can
visit on an annual basis, get to know the people, etc. doesn't need to
be on the coast i guess, but if inland, should have some other natural
appeal or low cost or spa, etc.

thanks for any and all suggestions!!!

I am told that Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point), Mexico is a super nifty place
to go. Out of the way, not too touristy (the tourists who are there are
generally snow birds and live there part time). Not Americanized but
friendly toward Americans. Check out http://www.puerto-penasco.com for more
info.
