Quick question...
Are the outlets as they are in the UK? I come from Canada, aka The Americas
as per you Aussies..hehe..and had gotten an adapter so am wondering if it'll
do or do I need another?!

Cheers!

You need another. The power is 240V, 50 Hz, (like the UK, but not like
the US 110V 60 Hz) and the plugs/sockets are unlike any overseas.
Adaptors are readily availble form most travel and luggage shops here,
also from Tandy (Radio Shack) and Dick Smith electronics stores.
Generally in the price range AU$10-20.

But, even if your plug fits, make sure the item will accept 240V or
you're likely to smell an expensive burning odour.

Cheers, Alan

More or less.

Go to:

It's all there!

PS - don't forget that many, if not most, Australian power outlets also have
on-off switches, so if you plug something in and nothing happens, look for a
small flick switch above the socket. As you might imagine, "on" and "off"
are usually - wait for it - REVERSED from our switches.

Of course - "on" is towards the poles, so in the southern hemisphere
on is down, in the northern hemisphere on is up.

Do you want to hear about our new-fangled metic time as well?

You'll be able to pick up an adaptor from the airport at your side.

Useful pages for such things include:

http://kropla.com/electric2.htm - list of countries and adaptors/plugs
http://kropla.com/electric.htm - pictures of the various types of
socket/plug and links to the countries using them

As an aside, unlikely to affect you but something no-one told us
before shipping goods, domestic sockets, plugs etc. are rated 10 amps
here vs 13 in the UK. High power items (e.g. some kettles, microwaves,
irons, etc.) won't work safely. NB to calculate the amps take power
rating (Watts) and divide by 230 - if the result is bigger than 10 you
shouldn't use it. YOu should also check the maximum rating of your
adaptor in the same way. This will be less than 10 amps, probably
around 5. Again, divide watts by 230 - if greater than the rating
don't use or else risk a fire.
