American Airlines: Safe booking bet
I have some discount coupons for American Airlines, and am thinking of using
them to fly from Portland, OR to Miami. Does anyone know if AA has stablized? I will be flying down the day before, but I don't want to find out a week before I leave that AA has finally gone under.... |

I'd say get insurance... but my experience is that they'll use any trick in
the book to not pay (remember... they make money when you pay them... not when they pay you). Particularly outfits like CSA. --Tom "Chip" wrote in message ... Insurance is a good idea, but be sure to check that they cover
American Airlines. Of course having insurance will get you your money back, but it won't get you on another flight if AA goes out of business. sue Tom K wrote: I'd say get insurance... but my experience is that they'll use any trick in the book to not pay (remember... they make money when you pay them... not when they pay you). Thus spake Sue and Kevin Mullen :
Insurance is a good idea, but be sure to check that they cover American Airlines. Of course having insurance will get you your money back, but it won't get you on another flight if AA goes out of business. The insurance must cover financial insolvency of the carrier. And if the airline is already in bankruptcy, they won't cover it. sue Tom K wrote: I'd say get insurance... but my experience is that they'll use any trick in the book to not pay (remember... they make money when you pay them... not when they pay you). Particularly outfits like CSA. Don't know about CSA, but yup on insurance companies as a whole. Sooner or later, they're going to require you to ship a heart before they'll pay on a life insurance policy. Ooops, hope that doesn't give them any ideas. --Tom "Chip" wrote in message ... Other than SouthWest, are there any major airlines left that are "stabilized"? I view it as a crapshoot and hope I get lucky. USAir, United, Continental, Northwest are all in trouble. Up until last week, _my_ pick would have Delta. vbseg |

When are you flying? Airlines declare and hang around in bankruptcy for
months or years before there are any issues. United declared in December of 200, they are still flying. US Airlines headed for protection in September of 2001, came out March of 03, and filed again in Sept 2004, and are still flying. ATA has been flying under bankruptcy since October, and is still flying. That aren't going to go under with just a weeks notice. If you are worried about it, get a fully refundable full fare ticket on an airline you think won't be in any trouble when you have to fly, and turn it in if American is still flying, use it if they don't.
