Sending Travellers Cheques
Our daughter is in Malawi doing a gap year project. We want to send her some
money. Can we send traveller's cheques or will she be unable to cash them because they have our signature on them? |

She will be unable to cash them if your name and signature are on them. There are other ways to send money, International Money Order is one, but, sending anything by post is a bit hit or miss to countries like this. If she has a debit or credit card then putting or transferring money into her bank or credit card account so that she can draw it out via ATMs or over a bank counter would be the easiest and safest way. Is she able to get to Blantyre or Lilongwe? If so, your best bet is
Western Union Money Transfers. It costs a bit, but is very relieble. Regards, Marc On Sat, 16 Apr 2005 09:38:56 GMT, "Evi" wrote: Our daughter is in Malawi doing a gap year project. That's what about every African here in Paris is using to send money home. Considering the impressive amount of money that goes that way I guess you can consider that a vote of confidence. It sure is expensive, but considering the costs, hassles, delays and risks of the alternatives in countries with primitive banking systems, Western Union is sometimes actually quite a good deal... |

Oh yes, Western Union is a VERY safe way to send money, and
considering the risks that they take (with no risk to the customer), a very good deal too.
